30 January 2007

site search is finally available!

31 December 2006

The administration page for the Google nonprofit search is still unavailable. Since Google took that offline during the weekend this redesign was launched back in September, and it has remained offline since, one of our first tasks in 2007 will be to replace the site search with a different routine.

Other updates planned for early 2007 are to make the rest of the 2006 Conference program available, post the 2004 Conference photo contest results, add the 2006 IWC report, and create some additional wallpaper selections for the members-only section. Cetaean fact sheet updates are in process and we're also hoping those will be available in the first quarter of 2007.

November 2006 Conference Updates:

We've updated the info on various pages, including the program. Of particular note is the fact that we're very excited to welcome World famous National Geographic underwater photographer Flip Nicklin as our keynote speaker at the Saturday night banquet ! Whooya !

Although the deadline has passed for mailing in full Conference registrations, we've added an on-line signup option (for credit card payments made on-line only) for the natural history excursion field trip, the banquet with Flip Nicklin, the beach bbq, and conference registrations.

For the best value, which includes the Beach BBQ with Hula Girl Dance Productions and the gourmet lunches, you must purchase a ticket before November 1st.

After October 31st, conference registration will still be available but without extras such as the gourmet lunches or goodie bags; so get your credit card out and go to the conference registration page.

Prices have also been added for one day and half day registrations. One day registrations made before November 1st have the option of including the gourmet lunch and goodie bag.

Separate tickets to the social events (the Beach BBQ and the Banquet with Flip Nicklin) will be available online through November 6th.

The partial-conference and no-extras sign ups will be available online through Nov 6th with credit card payment through this site only, otherwise please plan to register at the door.

Action Alert ! -- the whales need a little bit of your time before October 30th - there is a very short public comment period on the Navy's new attempt to use Low Frequency Active Sonar -- please see the Action Alert ! page for details

The Google Public Service Search has been "currently unavailable" since the 2nd of September (they discovered a security issue) so I can't get into it to replace the Google search results page with code that reflects the fact that this site "remodel" has gone live - so the last bullet item above still applies - if you have the ACS member user name and password you can use the site/web search but otherwise you won't get any further than the sign in box - sorry. The word from Google is that this will be available again as soon as they get the problem fixed.

3 September 2006 3:30 am PDT

Welcome to the newly redesigned American Cetacean Society web site. Some of the new content and features are:

  • greatly improved navigation
  • the 2004 Conference retrospective section
  • the developing 2006 Conference section
  • a number of the fact sheet illustrations have been updated, such as the killer whale family on the orca fact sheet.
  • a new page for educational outreach which is part of a greater emphasis on publicizing the many chapter activities that otherwise people don't know about
  • several new research reports
  • a new page for research programs, again, with emphasis on the chapters
  • additionally, you now have the option of joining or renewing your ACS membership online
  • and purchasing Whalewatcher back issues online
  • we've also made it easier for you to make your routine consumption do double duty and help ACS, by making the iGive and Amazon links easier to find on this site
  • the site search feature is new but unless you are a member (or have the membership login name and password), it doesn't work - of course, Murphy's law being what it is, Google's public service search area has been "currently unavailable" since this redesign was launched. The results page has to be entered separately directly onto their site and that can't be done until their nonprofit/ educational service page becomes available again... if you have the membership login info, you'll get the results but the page won't look right, so don't be alarmed.

These are just a few of the changes you'll discover as you explore our new site. Don't forget to visit our supporter's pages and thank them for their support. If you have time to volunteer, we'd love to have you join us.

We hope you enjoy the newly redesigned American Cetacean Society web site.

Please Remember They're NOT SAVED YET!
