ACS Cetacean Fact Packs

---

The American Cetacean Society has prepared Whale and Dolphin Fact Packs that contain concise information about selected whales and dolphins on Fact Sheets. Each Sheet provides information on one species, including distribution map, feeding, natural history, current status, physical description, biology and behavior. Experts in the fields of marine biology and marine mammal research have reviewed all Fact Sheets for accuracy.

The Fact Packs provide sufficient information for teachers to prepare their own instructional units about whales or cam be used as an adjunct to the Cetacean Curriculum. Students can use them to complete reports or papers. Each Fact Sheet also includes a bibliography for additional research. ACS grants permission to copy the Sheets provided they are distributed without charge, are used for educational purposes, and are not altered in any way.

Two Fact Packs are available. Each Fact Pack costs $5.25 plus shipping and handling. Use the Sales Order Form to order Fact Packs.

Spanish

Cetaceans are comprised of about 80 kinds of whales, dolphins, and porpoises. We say "about 80" because the number keeps changing as scientists learn more about these elusive animals and have had to reclassify some and add more.

Cetaceans range from human-sized to larger than the largest dinosaur.

On the small side, we have the vaquita porpoise and the franciscana dolphin, at under 6 feet in length & around 100 pounds.

The blue whale is the largest animal on the Earth, averaging around 100 feet & and weighing over 100 tons (200,000 pounds).

These magnificent creatures have fascinated people for centuries, but little is known about them because they spend most of their time underwater. Usually people only get to see them when they return to the surface to breathe.
